Gomoa Okyereko Erupts in Protest Over Cemetery Desecration

Tension is running high in Gomoa Okyereko, Central Region, Ghana, as residents and traditional leaders take to the streets to protest against estate developer Mustapha Plus. The reason? Mustapha Plus graded the community’s century-old cemetery for estate development, sparking outrage and defiance among the people.

Residents, clad in red attire and red handbands, chanted war songs, signaling their readiness to confront Mustapha Plus, even at the cost of their lives, if authorities fail to act promptly. The community claims their predecessors sold 350 acres of land to Mustapha Plus, but he allegedly manipulated the Lands Commission to register 1,500 acres.

Nana Donkor, regent caretaker of Gomoa Okyereko, led the demonstration, urging the Inspector-General of Police, National Security Minister, and President Akufo-Addo to intervene and maintain peace.

The protest stems from a deeper concern about the erosion of traditional rights and the exploitation of community resources. Similar disputes have arisen in Ghana, highlighting the need for clearer land
