Ghana’s Youth Urged to Embrace TVET for Better Job Prospects

The outgoing Director-General of the Ghana Technical, Vocational Education and Training (GTVET), Mawusi Nudekor Awity, has emphasized the crucial role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in equipping the youth with employable skills and driving economic growth.

Speaking at her farewell service, Awity highlighted the government’s recognition of TVET’s importance and its potential to address the country’s economic challenges. She noted that since assuming office in 2021, she had worked tirelessly to improve TVET institutions across the country, resulting in significant upgrades in infrastructure, equipment, and quality tuition.

Awity emphasized that TVET is no longer perceived as a secondary option, but rather a valuable pathway to tertiary education and career advancement. She encouraged beneficiaries of GTVET to share their success stories and promote TVET among those who may be hesitant to embrace it.

The outgoing Director-General also praised the collaboration between GTVET and industry players, providing students with practical experience and skills development. This partnership has created a conducive environment for a great relationship between industry and TVET institutions.

Awity expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Education and its agencies for their support and acknowledged the progress made during her tenure. She hoped that her successor would continue to build on her achievements and make TVET more attractive and accessible to youth across the country.

Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, thanked Awity for her dedication, selflessness, and innovative skills, noting her significant impact on the lives of young people.
