The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) is undergoing a significant transformation, shifting from manual to digital operations to enhance transparency, reduce delays, and improve resource allocation. Gender Minister Darkoa Newman announced the move in Accra, outlining the benefits of the new system.
Prospective caterers will now apply online and pay a non-refundable fee of GH¢200. A comprehensive information management system will manage caterer selection, data collection, and payments. This digital platform aims to eliminate discrepancies and leakages that have affected the programme in the past.
The system will be piloted in New Juaben South and Krachi East districts before a nationwide rollout ahead of the 2024/2025 academic year. Minister Newman emphasized that potential caterers must meet specific requirements, including proof of pre-financing their operations and a valid health certificate, before applying.
Key features of the digital platform include:
– Online applications for caterers
– Non-refundable fee of GH¢200
– Information management system for caterer selection, data collection, and payments
– Pilot programme in New Juaben South and Krachi East districts
– Nationwide rollout ahead of the 2024/2025 academic year
– Emphasis on transparency, efficiency, and accountability
This technological overhaul is expected to revolutionize the GSFP, making it more efficient, transparent, and effective in providing nutritious meals to schoolchildren across Ghana.
