Ghana@68: Wa Municipal NCCE marks Independence celebration with quiz

The Wa Municipal office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised a quiz competition between some basic schools in Wa to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Day anniversary celebration.
Four schools-Fongo M/A, St. Aiden’s Anglican, Wa Basic School Complex, and Kabanye Junior High Schools participated in the competition, which was organized in partnership with the Wa Municipal Education Directorate.
The quiz centered on the 1992 Republican Constitution, general knowledge (current affairs), and the first quarter activities of the Wa Municipal NCCE to enable the students abreast with the Constitution and current happenings in the country.
It also sought to create civil awareness and responsibility among the children by understanding their rights and duties as Ghanaians and be empowered to contribute to national development.
Addressing the students, Mr Nurideen Mumuni, the Wa Municipal Director of NCCE, indicated that the NCCE was conducting the exercise across all districts in the country to mark the celebration.
He said there was a need to inculcate good citizenship and nationalism into the younger generation to uphold the independence, sovereignty, and democracy of the nation.
Mr Nurideen observed that Ghana had maintained the peace, stability, and democracy it had subscribed to since 1992 and was admired by many countries hence the need to sustain it.
“We the people of Ghana have accommodated all the challenges associated with elections in Ghana and NCCE acknowledges and congratulates every Ghanaian for contributing their quota to ensuring peace and a successful election in 2024”, he stated.
Mr Victor Elikplim Nuworkpor, the Upper West Regional Director of NCCE, stated that the quiz would also enable the children understand the past and present political situation in Ghana to appreciate Ghana’s independence.
He added that it would inform the children to take the 1992 Constitution of Ghana very seriously and safeguard the country’s democracy.
Ms Bridget Gandaa, an Assistant Director at the Wa Municipal Assembly, acknowledged the commitment of the NCCE and Ghana Education Service in instilling nationalism into the younger generation to become resourceful and responsible citizens.
“Education is the bedrock of national development, and this quiz competition embodies the true spirit of learning, national awareness, and intellectual growth.
As we celebrate our 68 years of independence, it is crucial to reflect on our past, embrace the presence, and envisage a brighter future”, she explained.
On his part, Mr Suleyman Mujeeb, the Public Relations Officer of the Wa Municipal Education Directorate, indicated that the competition would also enhance their confidence level and learning ability.
He added that it would encourage them to study the Constitution and apply it to their everyday life and academic endeavours.
Some students expressed gratitude to the NCCE for the privilege to participate in the quiz and said it was an opportunity for them to learn about the Constitution and the history of Ghana.
All participating schools were presented with exercise books, pens, and copies of the 1992 constitution.
