Hope for Prisoners and Civilians Ghana is urging citizens, especially the youth, to remain calm and promote peaceful elections as the country prepares for upcoming polls. Mr. Kwaku Dua, the organization’s National President, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability during the electoral process, cautioning the youth against engaging in violent activities that could lead to imprisonment.
“The youth should focus on building a brighter future, not risking their freedom and well-being through violence,” Mr. Dua urged. He also highlighted the negative impact of electoral violence on individuals, the democratic process, and national development.
Key Objectives of Hope for Prisoners and Civilians Ghana:
– Improving Welfare: Providing support services, advocacy, and education to inmates
– Promoting Reintegration: Facilitating successful reentry into society for ex-convicts
– Peaceful Coexistence: Encouraging national unity and stability
Additionally, Mr. Dua addressed the stigma surrounding ex-convicts, calling on Ghanaians to welcome and support those reintegrating into society. “We must create an inclusive environment that encourages rehabilitation and reformation, rather than rejection and isolation,” he emphasized.
This appeal is timely, considering Ghana’s efforts to promote rehabilitation and reintegration. The country has initiatives like the Harnessing Opportunities for Prisoners and Ex-convicts (HOPE) project, which strengthens the Paralegal Unit of the Ghana Prison Service. President Akufo-Addo has also emphasized the need for the Prison Service to ensure convicts return to their communities well-reformed and rehabilitated.
As Ghana approaches the elections, Mr. Dua’s message is clear: prioritize peace, unity, and understanding. By doing so, the country can create a society that supports and uplifts each other, rather than tearing each other down.
