The Ghana Triathlon Federation has successfully held its Elective General Assembly virtually and elected new executive members to steer the affairs of the Federation for the next four years.
The election saw all the sixteen regions represented by a delegate each, who voted for the 13 aspirants, who contested unopposed with 100 per cent endorsement.
Mr Fuseini Bawah, Chairman, Ghana Athletic Association was elected President with Mr Eric Sena Adjeyi been elected the Vice President of the Federation.
Mr Yaw Boakye Yiadom would serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the federation while Mr Rafatu Inusah, Mrs Enyonam Broohm, COI Samuel Tetteh Ayer and Christian Aidoo were elected as secretary, treasurer, organiser and deputy organiser respectively.
Other executives elected include Mr Apedo Felix, CEO of Oly Sports Consult at Keta in the Volta region and Mr Antwi Richard, who would also serve as board member while Mr Theophilus Sampah and Mr Mark Ofosu-Twum would take the offices of Public Relation Officer (PRO) and Athletes Representative, respectively.
The rest are Mr Abdul-Rauf Zakaria, who was elected as Coaches representative and Mr Prince Twumasi Asare as the Technical Official Representative.
Mr Fuseini Bawah, the new Federation President, stated that the Ghana Triathlon Federation would work hard to promote the development of triathlon in all regions and communities in the country through organising several local and international competitions which would include the annual Ghana Triathlon Championships to unearth more young talent for national competitions.
“We will build on the successes of the previous administration and take the federation to new heights; we have series of plans and programmes outlined that aimed at promoting the development of triathlon in Ghana,” he said.
Ghana News Agency understands that one key area of focus for the new executives would be the development of grassroots triathlon, which the Federation planned to establish triathlon clubs in schools and communities across the country, with the aim of identifying and nurturing young talent.
The Ghana Triathlon Federation has also announced plans to host several international competitions in the coming years and work closely with the International Triathlon Union (ITU) to bring top-level triathlon competitions to Ghana.
The election of the new executives has been hailed as a major step forward for triathlon in Ghana. The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has congratulated the new executives and pledged its support for the development of triathlon in Ghana.
Mr Felix Apedo, a newly elected Board Member, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, pledged that the federation would help promote the development of triathlon in Ghana.
“With the support of the GOC and the ITU, the federation is poised to make a major impact on the international triathlon scene and deliver well.”
A triathlon competition is a multi-discipline sporting event that consists of three continuous events such as swimming, cycling and running for group of sports men and women.
