At the crossroads of national development, there’s the urgent need to discard and if possible completely ban the importation of human hair from some Asian and South American countries, Mr Prince Bugnaba Mba, President of Forumfor Equity has said.
“It’s an undisputed fact that Human hair from some of these countries are more expensive than gold”.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on expensive importation of human hair Mr Mba said common reasoning made it ridiculous and mockery of our traditional values to import such so called beauty accessory at such a price which had effect on foreign exchange business controls and management.
“We therefore challenge our research centre to come out with alternative models from plants like silky fibre of corn and other similar crops. There’s also a possibility of getting a non inflammation petrochemical type to satisfy the ever growing demand.”
He urged Public officials to also be banned from wearing human hair while on duty.
“The natural beauty could be enhanced by the appliances of Sheabutter, coconut oil, palm kernel oil. Africans need Miss Natural Beauty, without attachments of ghostlike fingers nails”.
He said the spirit of Kobina Sekye, who refused to wear the legal robes should be encouraged.
“We must take the lead and ahead as the gateway of Africa. Africa beyond colonial fashion trends is a multi bill dollars saving philosophy which would definitely improve our economic well-being and enforce our pride as creative and positive minded people”.
