Ghana Launches Groundbreaking Knowledge and Skills Portal

Ghana has become the second country in Africa to launch a comprehensive Knowledge and Skills portal, providing access to over five million online resources. The portal was officially launched on September 17, 2024, in Accra by the Education and Communications Ministries.

Communications Minister, Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, expressed her enthusiasm for the platform, highlighting its potential to democratize access to education. “This platform will enable students of all classes to access knowledge from anywhere,” she said.

The portal was developed by Impomtuo Technologies, a wholly Ghanaian-owned company, with support from MTN and funding from the World Bank. The platform’s content aligns with the approved curriculum and includes Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses and modules.

The portal will also serve as a marketing platform for Ghanaian publishers, allowing them to upload and sell digital copies of their work.

Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, noted that Ghana’s portal surpasses similar platforms in Africa, thanks to its AI integration and other advanced features. “Only Egypt has a similar platform, but ours will be the best in Africa,” he said.

Dr. Adutwum expressed optimism that the portal will equip students with the skills needed to excel in the digital age and transform the education sector.

He also addressed critics who claim Ghana’s education system is deteriorating, saying, “Considering the change being experienced in the sector, it’s puzzling why politicians would make such claims.”
