The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has taken a significant step towards strengthening community health surveillance in the Krachi East Municipality by organizing a training workshop for community volunteers.

The diverse groups include, Over-the-counter (OTC) sellers, pharmacists, media practitioners, youth wings and many more.

The programme is being sponsored by United States Government Global Health Security Project and facilitated by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The training is focusing on event-based surveillance, equipping volunteers with the skills to detect and report health issues effectively.

Empowering the participants during the training section, Mr. John Baffoe, a Facilitator said the initiative aimed at enhancing community-based surveillance and response to health threats, ultimately improving public health outcomes in the Municipality.

He took the participants through key areas, such as detection and reporting of health issues to the appropriate authorities, and response to health emergencies.

The expected outcomes of this training include improved health outcomes, strengthening community based surveillance and response systems, and enhanced capacity of community volunteers to detect and response to health threats.

The volunteers expressed their commitment to collaborate with the GHS and other agencies to combat health threats in their communities.

Despite facing various challenges, the volunteers urged authorities to provide support and pledged to work together to report unusual health issues to health officials for immediate intervention.

The volunteer’s commitment to supporting the GHS’s efforts is a positive step towards strengthening community health surveillance and promoting public health in the area.
