German Mayor pledges support for development in Atwima Kwawoma District

Mayor Rolf Beuting of Murnau, a town in Bavaria, Germany, and his delegation have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the rapid development of the Atwima Kwawoma District in the areas of education and sanitation.

He was speaking at a meeting between a delegation from Murnau and Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II, the Atwimahene, along with Madam Eunice Boakye, Coordinating Director of the Atwima Kwawoma District Assembly as part of an exchange program between Marnau and Atwima Kwanwoma.

Mayor Beuting emphasized the Murnau Council’s continued collaboration with both the District Assembly and the Atwima Traditional Council.

He said the cooperation would strengthen the existing partnership between the two towns and lead to the implementation of more impactful development projects.

The partnership between Atwima and Murnau was established five years ago through a formal agreement aimed at fostering development in key areas such as education, health, climate change, and sanitation.

Since then, Murnau has made significant contributions, including the donation of a modern fire tender to combat fire outbreaks in Atwima and support for afforestation efforts along riverbanks to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The two communities have also engaged in educational and cultural exchange programs, as well as internships aimed at promoting mutual understanding and growth.

Mayor Beuting announced that new projects are being planned to further enhance the partnership, with a particular focus on improving education in the Atwima District.

Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II outlined recent contributions he has made to the community, including the provision of a sickbay for the Technical and Vocational School at Twedie and a maternity block for the Takyiman community.

Madam Eunice Boakye highlighted some of the pressing challenges in the district, such as the need for immediate funding and the establishment of training centers for parents and children with disabilities.

As part of their visit, the Murnau team presented football jerseys and equipment to the German Ghanaian School at Denkyemuoso.

They also toured various sanitation sites and ongoing development projects across the district.
