Gbande Warns: NDC Security to Deal with Troublemakers

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern warning to participants in its nationwide demonstration, scheduled for Today Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The party’s Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, emphasized that the NDC will not tolerate any disruptive behavior during the protests.

The demonstration aims to pressure the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a comprehensive audit of the voter register ahead of the December elections. The NDC has expressed concerns about the register’s integrity, citing potential anomalies and irregularities.

In an interview with Citi FM on Monday, September 16, Gbande assured that the protest would be carried out lawfully and peacefully. He stated that the party has made arrangements to ensure a smooth event, including:

1. Internal security personnel to maintain order and address any issues swiftly.
2. Instructions to security detail to deal decisively with any attempts at disruption.
3. Measures to prevent infiltration by opposing party members seeking to cause trouble.

Gbande warned that the NDC’s security personnel will take swift action against anyone attempting to disrupt the demonstration. “We wouldn’t wait for the police to deal with such an act. We ourselves will detail our security guys to deal with such a threat the way it deserves if it shows its head,” he stated.

The NDC has anticipated potential infiltration by members of the opposing party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Gbande noted that some individuals might wear NDC T-shirts to blend in and cause trouble, but the party’s security detail is prepared to identify and handle such threats.

The NDC reiterated its commitment to a peaceful demonstration, emphasizing that the event aims to express the party’s dissatisfaction with the voter register and demand an audit. Gbande stated, “Because the NDC and the people of Ghana intend to embark on a very peaceful demonstration… if anybody covertly arranges to come and perpetrate illegality in that demonstration, we will deal with that person with any force that we can marshal.”
