Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho could unexpectedly leave the club in January, if a recent report is to be believed.
Earlier this morning, Fichajes reported that the young Argentine is attracting interest from La Liga giants Atlético Madrid ahead of the winter transfer window.
“Atlético Madrid are targeting Alejandro Garnacho during the winter transfer window,” the report says.
“Diego Pablo Simeone, a self-confessed admirer of the Argentine winger, believes the young talent could be key to bolstering Atlético’s attack, especially given the possibility of Antoine Griezmann leaving next summer.”
While Manchester United may be expected to reject Atlético’s advances, the article suggests that is not necessarily the case.
“The situation at Manchester United, where Rubén Amorim is said to be ready to facilitate the player’s departure, opens the door for a strategic move by the Spanish club.”
Garnacho has proven to be one of United’s young stars in recent seasons, having cemented his place as a regular starter last term. So it was a shock to hear manager Ruben Amorim leave Garnacho out of his squad for the impressive 2-1 away win over Manchester City.
According to Amorim, the decision was based on the young Argentine’s performance in training, which also explains Marcus Rashford’s absence.
Numerous United legends have expressed their support for Amorim’s controversial move, with Roy Keane believing the United manager is within his rights to part ways with players who are not up to the required standard, regardless of who they are.
While Garnacho’s departure could bring significant revenue to the club, given his estimated market value of €50m, one can’t help but wonder whether it would not be wiser for United to keep him and secure a permanent deal given the physical training he needs to go through to become a crucial star for the years to come.
