Former Nkroful  Assembly Member commends government’s initiatives against galamsey

Mr John Kwaw Nketiah, a former Assembly Member of Nkroful electoral area has lauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s bold initiative in last eight months to tackle the galamsey menace in galamsey- prone zones in the country.

 

He said the government through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources had taken measures to deal with the galamsey nuisance head-on without fear or favour.

 

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nkroful, Mr Nketiah said the political will power given to the galamsey fight in the NDC government was a step in the right direction.

 

 

He commended the sector Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah for sterling initiatives such as the Water Guards, the Omanbapa Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme and the burning of excavators and Chanfang machines as prudent measures to clamp down on galamsey activities.

 

He also mentioned efforts of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat (NAIMUS) and the constant patrol, arrest and prosecution of illegal miners at river bodies and forest reserves.

 

Mr Nketiah called on Ghanaians to “join in the fight against galamsey.
