Former IGP James Oppong-Boanuh Pays Tribute to Late IGP Kwofie

At the funeral service of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Yalley Assuah Kwofie, held at the State House, retired IGP James Oppong-Boanuh eulogized the late IGP as a man of integrity who advised him against accepting bribes. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking government officials, security personnel, clergy, and family members.

IGP Oppong-Boanuh described the late IGP Kwofie as a distinguished career police officer who joined the Ghana Police Service in 1968 and rose through the ranks. He served as Commissioner of CEPS and Board Member of the Internal Revenue Service before being appointed IGP in 1990. During his tenure, he introduced innovations like the police welfare scheme and mentored several young men who became IGPs, including the current IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

IGP Dampare also paid tribute to the late IGP, acknowledging his achievements and contributions to the police service and the country. He shared a memorable phrase coined by the late IGP Kwofie, “I get plenty,” which symbolized the challenges and stresses of his role.

The police burial festival was performed, including the presentation of the sword to the family, as is customary for a police officer of Commissioner or IGP rank. Tributes and eulogies were delivered by various individuals and organizations, including the family, widow, children, Police Administration, and the National Association of Retired Police Officers.
