Form Ghana plants more trees to restore degraded forest cover

Form Ghana, a forest plantation management company, says it has planted and nurtured 9,331 hectares of trees to restore degraded forest cover in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region.
Madam Afia Yeboah Bediako, the Plantation Manager of the company in the area the trees planted at the Kotaa forest include 7,463 hectares of teak plantation and other species, saying the company was currently managing 15,625 hectares of plantation in the area.
Madam Bediako disclosed this when Osabarima Nana Darteh, the Acting President of the Berekum Traditional Council and some members visited the company’s site at Kotaa, a forest fringe community in the area.

The chiefs were there to check their operations following an alleged illegal mining activity being undertaken by the company in the forest.
Mr Matthew Asumang, the Commercial Manager of the company, described the allegations as false, explaining that the company had no excavators, but used other machines for tree harvesting.
He said operations of the company in the area had created job opportunities for many of the unemployed young people.
Osabarima Darteh emphasised that the council was strongly against illegal mining and would not allow the menace within the Berekum land.
Mr Godfred Mawutor Quansah, the Bono Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission said the commission would intensify monitoring to ensure that companies complied with regulations.
Mr Collins Asomah, the Berekum West District Chief Executive called on the company to rehabilitate the Pepaase Bridge in the area for the people.
