Scores of Ghanaian football supporters attended the final funeral rites of Asante Kotoko fan Yaw Frimpong, often known as ‘Nana Pooley.’
On Thursday, March 6, 2025, the Heroes Park in Kumasi saw a sad day in Ghanaian football history as supporters grieved Nana Pooley, who died at the Nana Koronmansah Park at Nsoatre.
Nana Pooley’s funeral drew a large crowd, with football officials, fans, and well-wishers gathering to honour the memories of the devoted supporter who helped to build Asante Kotoko’s dynamic fan culture.
There was a strong representation from all clubs in the country, including the Hearts of Oak fans, Bechem United fans, Berekum Chelsea fans, Nations FC fans, among others.
Furthermore, the Ghana Football Association delegation led by President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku was also present to pay their last respects to Nana Pooley.
The GFA President, was joined by his team of Executive Council members, Regional Football Association Chairmen, club executives, and other officials, who showed support and solidarity to Asante Kotoko and bid farewell to the passionate fan.
The late Nana Pooley, who passed away painfully last month, was interred at Ahafo Kukuom Royal Mausoleum on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
The scenes at Nana Pooley’s funeral underlined Ghana football’s solidarity and mutual respect, as the football family rallied behind Asante Kotoko during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service is still investigating the circumstances behind Nana Pooley’s death, and football fans are clamouring for justice to be served.
