Floods: Keta MP supports flood affected communities

Mr. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, the Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, in the Volta Region, has supported flood affected victims at Lawoshime Electoral Area of the municipality.
The support includes two boxes of Wellington boots, a box of cutlasses, blankets, used clothes, a canoe among others, to communities such as Hagodzi, Songbe, Mamime, Lawoshime and Agorvinu in the electoral area.
Mr. Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, the Keta National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director, who on behalf of the MP handed over the donations to the residents disclosed to the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the support would alleviate the plight of the victims.


“These donations will help a lot, and we have expressed our heartfelt gratitude to individuals and organisations who have provided support to flood-affected communities,” he said.
He explained that the Keta NADMO has also donated some essential relief items which include four life jackets, to community leaders of the affected areas to aid safe transportation during flood periods and ensure resident safety especially for those using canoes.
Mr. Deynu said that the acts of kindness and solidarity exhibited by the MP, individuals and other organisations have reflected the strength of the community spirit in Keta municipality and the shared responsibility to care for one another was evident in the support provided to vulnerable communities at Lawoshime and the surrounding communities.
“The continuous efforts by NADMO and support from organisations are to mitigate the effects of the flood and provide relief to those communities affected,” Mr. Deynu said.


He commended Mr. Wisdom Seade, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Keta who repaired two damaged canoes donated by Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) which were used by school children, teachers and residents in the flood affected areas as well as implementing plans towards seeking long-term flood mitigation solutions.
He said other individuals such as Mr. Daniel Kwame Draphor, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Splendid Hotel at Keta, has also donated two canoes through the Anlo United Foundation, with additional financial support for painting, transportation, and repair.
Mr. Deynu said that the National Disaster Management Organisation played a critical role in disaster management in the area which include flood disasters management and efforts were focus on educating the public, providing emergency response, and supporting affected communities.
He urged other individuals and corporate organisations to support the victims of affected communities through Keta NADMO.
Mr. Israel Mensah, the Assembly Member of the area who received the items on behalf of the communities thanked the donors for their kind gesture and pledged that the items wold be use for the right purpose.
