The family head of the final year student from O’Reilly Senior High School who was tragically stabbed to death, Nii Afotey Chiribour IV, has called for the accused to face the death penalty.
In an interview with GhanaWeb TV’s SayItLoud on September 2, 2024, Nii Chiribour IV expressed his belief that justice would only be served if the accused, identified as Gideon, receives the same fate as his grandson. He emphasized that a mere prison sentence would not suffice, citing biblical principles to support his stance.
“We want the court to rule that he should also be sentenced to death. If you stab someone to death, you must also face the same fate, as even the Bible says so,” he stated.
Nii Chiribour IV also mentioned that the family intends to hold the school’s teachers accountable, with plans to ensure they face legal consequences for their role in the incident.
On the other hand, the family of the accused, who is identified in court documents as 18-year-old Gideon, has pleaded for forgiveness. They expressed their sorrow and bewilderment over their son’s actions, begging for mercy from the victim’s family at the La District Court, where Gideon was remanded into police custody.
