Organisers of the first-ever Volta heritage festival, dubbed “Experience Volta in Accra,” have announced an exciting and culturally rich lineup of activities ahead of the celebration slated for December 13, 2025, at the El Wak Sports Stadium.
The festival promises a full-day celebration of Ewe heritage, showcasing the region’s timeless traditions, music, cuisine, art and creativity in a modern, vibrant atmosphere.
It seeks to unite people of the Volta Region and lovers of Ghanaian culture under one experience that captures the essence of the region’s identity.
During an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Eric Seyram Agbolosu, the Festival Director said Experience Volta in Accra was designed to bring the spirit and energy of the region’s diverse festivals to the entire nation, offering natives and culture enthusiasts an opportunity to relive the rich essence of home.
“We have many unique cultural festivals in Voltaland, like Hogbetsotsoza, Teza, Avenortutudoza, Godigbeza, Nugoryiza, and many others that celebrate our diverse heritage. But not every native gets the opportunity to attend or participate. So, our goal is to bring everyone together at one venue, in the capital, to create that same communal spirit and pride those festivals provide.”
The festival will open with “Fiazorli” (the Awakening Procession) from 1000 to 1100hours, featuring a majestic royal parade of chiefs, priests, drummers, and traditional troupes.
The streets of Accra are expected to come alive with the rhythm and colour of Ewe heritage as the procession symbolically awakens unity and cultural pride.
This will be followed by “Amlima Kornuwo,” the Durbar of Chiefs, a grand gathering of traditional rulers, dignitaries, and cultural leaders with the durbar expected to showcase Ewe rituals, greetings, and royal pageantry in a captivating display of unity and reverence for tradition.
From 1300-1700hours, festival goers will be treated to “Blema Xotutwo; the Cultural Experience, a high-energy segment featuring traditional dances such as agbadza, borborbor, and atsiagbekor, with storytelling, drumming, and folk performances expected to immerse audiences in Volta’s artistic soul.
Running concurrently, “Vakpor Mi Da” – The Taste of Volta” will offer visitors a gastronomic journey through the region’s authentic dishes, local drinks, and pastries while a food and craft exhibition will also feature fashion, innovation, and art — a feast for both the palate and the senses.
As dusk falls, nostalgia will take centre stage with “old skul vibes” from 1830-2200hours, where the evening will celebrate Ewe classics, folk music, spoken word, and timeless rhythms reminiscent of the region’s storytelling traditions.
The celebration will climax with “The New Wave Experience,” from 2200hours till dawn, featuring a blend of contemporary sounds with traditional roots with electrifying performances in Highlife, Afro pop, Reggae, and Dancehall, a vibrant fusion that highlights Volta’s evolving creative scene.
Among the festival’s esteemed patrons are Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of Aflao and Mr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, Volta Regional Representative on the Council of State, with the organisers having earlier paid courtesy calls on notable figures, including Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, and Togbi Sri III, the Awoamefia of Anlo State, to seek their blessings and collaboration.
The Experience Volta Festival has received official endorsement from the Ghana Tourism Authority as part of its flagship, “December in GH” campaign.
The initiative forms part of efforts to promote Ghana’s regional cultures as key attractions for both domestic and international tourists.
With a rich blend of tradition and modernity, Experience Volta in Accra is expected to become a signature annual event on Ghana’s cultural calendar which will not only project the artistic excellence of the Volta Region but also strengthen unity among Ghanaians through shared appreciation of culture and heritage.
Mr Agbolosu said they wanted people to feel, taste, and celebrate the spirit of Volta right there at the nation’s capital, stressing that the event was more than a festival, but a homecoming for every proud Ewe and a cultural adventure for everyone else.
