The Eric Danquah Foundation (EDF), through its flagship programme, The Highflyers in Plant Breeding and Genetics Programme, has awarded a scholarship to Mr Mohammed Sani Mohammed.
Mr Mohammed is a final-year student at the University of Ghana studying for a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Crop Science).
The EDF in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said Mr Mohammed received the scholarship based on merit, having been the top-performing student in the Level 300 Genetics course.
His award covers his full accommodation fees and includes a brand-new laptop to support his academic work.
Beyond the financial support, the scholarship offers mentorshipâan important feature of the EDF Scholarship Programmeâdesigned to help students strengthen their academic skills and prepare for their future careers.
Reflecting on the award, Mohammed expressed his heartfelt gratitude to EDF Founder, Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, highlighting that the scholarship has made it possible for him to live on campus and focus better on his studies.
âI am especially excited about the mentorship programme, which I believe will greatly shape my academic and professional path,â he said.
The Eric Danquah Foundation was established by Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, Founding Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), after he received the prestigious GCHERA World Agriculture Prize on October 28, 2018.
Through its main initiative, The Highflyers in Plant Breeding & Genetics Programme, the Foundation aims to nurture a new generation of skilled agricultural scientists who will drive innovation and research excellence across Africa, ultimately contributing to the continentâs sustainable development.
