The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the Ashanti Region has organized a training program for health practitioners on proper medical waste management. The training, which took place on September 12, 2024, aimed to educate approximately 400 health workers from various public and private health facilities in the region.
According to Dr. Jackson Adiyaah Nyantakyi, Ashanti Regional Director of the EPA, the training was necessitated by the agency’s observation that many health facilities lack knowledge on proper medical waste disposal. Dr. Nyantakyi emphasized that proper medical waste management is crucial in preventing the spread of infectious diseases among patients and health workers.
Engineer Senam Tangey, General Manager of Medical Wastes Services Limited, provided training on best practices for managing medical waste. In an interview with Angel News, Engineer Tangey noted that despite their efforts in the region last year, some private health facilities have yet to adopt proper medical waste disposal methods. He urged these facilities to embrace the new developments to protect the environment.
The training program is part of the EPA’s efforts to ensure that health facilities in the Ashanti Region adhere to proper medical waste management practices, safeguarding the health of patients, health workers, and the environment.
