West Ham United are set to consider a swap deal involving left-back Emerson Palmieri as they look to strengthen their midfield. According to reports in Italy, the Hammers are interested in the potential signing of Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who is currently considered surplus to requirements in Turin.
That could pave the way for West Ham to bring the Italian to the London Stadium, although they have been exploring ways to lower his asking price. It appears West Ham Chief Tim Steidten is keen to use Palmieri as part of the deal, with the former Chelsea defender having previously been a target for the Serie A giants.
Palmieri has not always been the most consistent in his Premier League career, but he has shown moments of quality and one could imagine he could be an interesting option for Juventus. If Fagioli is not in Juventus’ plans, it could make sense for them to try to get rid of him in January and perhaps increase their defensive depth while they’re at it.
West Ham need to improve in a number of areas after a poor start to the season under Julen Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes in the summer.
It’s increasingly looking like it wasn’t the right move to bring in the Spanish tactician as Moyes has done a great job with the east London outfit, but perhaps a good January transfer window could change that.
