Electoral Commission to re-exhibit corrected voters register online ahead of 2024 elections

he Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it will re-exhibit the corrected Provisional Voters Register (PVR) online before finalizing it for the 2024 General Elections.

This commitment comes after the NDC led a nationwide protest, titled ‘Enough is Enough,’ which highlighted discrepancies in the provisional register and called for a forensic audit of the EC’s IT system. During the protest, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah submitted a petition to the EC, citing issues such as illegal voter transfers, missing names, incomplete data, and allegations of a compromised IT system.

In response, the EC acknowledged these concerns and clarified its plan to re-exhibit the PVR. While the Commission is open to a physical exhibition at all 40,000+ centres, it pointed out that the process would require around four weeks to complete, which is not feasible given the proximity of the elections.

Instead, the EC announced its intention to conduct an Online Exhibition of the PVR, allowing registered voters to check and report any anomalies at no cost. The online version will be accessible until Election Day.

Regarding the NDC’s demand for a forensic audit, the EC stated that it does not believe such an audit is currently warranted. “The legal and administrative processes to clean the PVR have not been fully exhausted to justify the call for a forensic audit. We urge the public to trust in our ability to fulfill our mandate.”
