The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has confirmed incidents of double registration in Pusiga and suspended its District Officer pending investigations. The irregularities occurred between August 20th and 27th, 2023.
At a press conference in Accra, Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner of Corporate Services, revealed that one person has been arrested in connection with the fraud. He assured the public that the EC will not shield any staff members found guilty of wrongdoing and will take appropriate action once investigations are complete.
Dr. Asare attributed the bloated registration to multiple counting errors from the 2020 to 2023 voters’ register, but emphasized that the situation is under control. He reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and credible elections, stating that they will leave no stone unturned in achieving this goal.
