Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize the demand for free and fair electoral processes over simply advocating for peace during elections. Speaking after a courtesy visit by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team on Monday, September 2, Togbe Afede stressed that the integrity of the electoral system is crucial for maintaining peace and stability in the country.
The revered chief highlighted that while peace is vital, it is the fairness and transparency of elections that genuinely prevent violence and unrest. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and hold electoral bodies accountable to ensure the upcoming elections are conducted fairly, emphasizing that a transparent and credible electoral process is the foundation of a peaceful society.
“Why is everybody talking about peace during and after the elections, and nobody is talking about free and fair elections, which will rather guarantee the peace we are all looking for?” Togbe Afede asked, as political tensions continue to rise ahead of the 2024 general elections.
