Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the 2024 Election Running Mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized the need for truthful, sincere, and trustworthy leadership in Ghana. She urged the electorate to make informed decisions when they head to the polls on December 7, 2024.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that truthfulness and sincerity are essential for building public trust, respect, and confidence, which are crucial for the nation’s progressive development and divine favor.
Speaking at the annual âMeko Bonoâ homecoming and festival of the Bono people in Techiman, Bono East Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called on the government to be open and accountable, fostering avenues for citizens to contribute actively to national development.
She also stressed the importance of mutual respect and tolerance among Ghanaians to maintain the countryâs peace. She warned that disrespect and character assassination during the election period could lead to enmity and political violence, which would threaten national peace and social cohesion.
Addressing the youth, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the current challenges but encouraged them to remain hopeful, stating, “It is sad that things are not going well now, but there is hope at the end of the tunnel.”
She reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to fulfilling its manifesto promises, including building universities in all newly created regions and enhancing technical education through the revitalization of technical universities.
Mrs. Lordina Mahama, former First Lady and companion of the NDC running mate, praised the festivalâs goals and urged the community to maintain peace and unity for the regionâs holistic development.
