Election 2024: Mahama calls for compassion and solidarity amid economic hardship

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to support one another during these challenging economic times. He emphasized the importance of compassion and solidarity in helping each other navigate the current difficulties.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the 31st Biennial General Council meeting of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, held at the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo, Upper East Region, Mahama highlighted the severe economic challenges facing the nation.

“We’ve seen an increase in multidimensional poverty, according to recent statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service. It reports that 8 million of our people in 2023 went a day without food because they couldn’t afford it. This means that people are hungry, and the hardship is real,” Mahama stated.

He urged Ghanaians to show compassion to one another, especially during these tough times, stressing that, “In times of poverty, we must be our fellow’s keepers.”

Mahama called for a collective response to the situation, encouraging those who are more fortunate to extend a helping hand to the less privileged in society.
