After publicly endorsing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, at the 2024 election campaign launch, media personality Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) has reiterated his support for the party. Many were surprised by KOD’s endorsement on such a significant platform, given his previous support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview with Citi FM’s Bernard Avle, KOD explained that his support for the NDC is deeply rooted in his background and family influences. “I have always had a soft spot for the NDC because of my background, my mother, my father, and the environment I grew up in,” he stated.
At the recent NDC campaign launch in Tamale, KOD was actively involved, rallying support for John Mahama as the December 2024 elections approach. He praised Mahama’s journey and urged Ghanaians to embrace the change they have been seeking, saying, “We need that change that we’ve been yearning for.”
KOD’s switch to the NDC, announced in a September 2023 interview, marked a significant shift from his previous support for the NPP, which he attributed to unfulfilled promises by the current government. This change in political allegiance has not been well received by some of his acquaintances. In a Facebook post on July 20, KOD noted that certain individuals have distanced themselves from him due to his new political stance, though he respects their choices.
KOD emphasized his right to make his own decisions, including his political beliefs, and expressed frustration over attempts by others to sway his views.
