Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews, Founder and Leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has vowed to promote accountability among political leaders if elected President in the 2024 General Election. Addressing concerns over the “unexplained wealth” of some politicians, Rev. Andrews pledged that his administration would require wealthy politicians to declare their assets and explain their sources of income.
In a statement to the Ghana News Agency, Rev. Andrews highlighted that the lack of accountability has fueled corruption and motivated individuals to enter politics for personal gain. “Politicians will be made to prove their source of wealth when I become President. We must ensure that politicians account to the people for the source of their wealth beyond what they legitimately earn for serving the country,” he stated.
The GUM, which secured third place in the 2020 presidential election with 105,548 votes (0.805% of the total ballots cast), plans to build on its previous success and significantly impact the 2024 elections. The party aims to establish factories in every region and operate a free port to stimulate economic growth and improve living conditions. Rev. Andrews specifically emphasized a focus on the ceramic manufacturing industry, promising to prioritize its development if elected President.
