Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, has encouraged parents and guardians to develop their children’s language skills through reading and learning. He emphasized that multilingual children tend to perform better academically and have improved cognitive skills, memory, and global understanding.
Dr. Adutwum stressed the importance of parents shaping their children’s future by teaching them to read, write, and speak their local language. He highlighted the government’s vision to achieve 90% literacy rate, which is crucial for national development.
The Minister made these remarks during the 2024 International Literacy Day celebration, themed “Celebrating Multilingual Literacy Through Digitalization to Promote Peace”. Dr. Catherine Agyapomaa Appiah Pinkrah, Executive Director of the Complementary Education Agency (CEA), also spoke about the agency’s partnership with UNESCO to enhance reading and learning capacities among both young and old individuals. She emphasized the significance of education in national development and CEA’s initiatives to provide skill training and education to all, regardless of age or financial background.
