EC to Present Voter’s Register to Political Parties, Stakeholders on Tuesday

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to present the entire voter’s register to political parties and other stakeholders on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. This move aims to address growing concerns about the register’s accuracy and credibility ahead of the 2024 elections.

Deputy Chairman Dr. Bossman Asare made the announcement on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme, responding to calls from various political parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for an audit of the voter’s register.

The NDC had raised concerns about alleged discrepancies in the provisional list, demanding immediate action to ensure transparency in the electoral process. Although the EC initially rejected calls for an audit, Dr. Asare assured the public of the commission’s commitment to a fair and transparent process.

Presenting the register to stakeholders is part of the EC’s efforts to build trust and ensure accountability. The Tuesday meeting will provide an opportunity for review, concerns, and clarifications.

“We have addressed all concerns raised and informed political parties about the IPAC meeting on Tuesday, where we will present the entire voter’s register,” Dr. Asare said. “We request all parties to attend.”

Dr. Asare expressed confidence that this engagement will address concerns, foster collaboration between the EC and political entities, and ensure a credible electoral process.

The EC’s move is seen as a step towards transparency and accountability, aiming to bolster public trust in the electoral process.
