EC Destroys Defective Ballots for Eastern Region Ahead of 2024 Elections

The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Regional Electoral Security Task Force, on Tuesday, December 3, supervised the destruction of defective ballot papers that were withdrawn by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The exercise was also carried out under the close supervision of all the constituency electoral officers of all political parties who monitored the exercise from their various depots to the regional dump on Akwadum Road.

The EC has suspended the special voting exercise for the Eastern and Western regions over these violations.
With the exception of Afram Plains constituencies in the north and south, the remaining 31 constituencies have submitted their presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for destruction.

The Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, John Appiah Baffour, who spoke to Citi News, said he was satisfied with the process. “The operation was a real success. In fact, we gathered all the parties and constituency officials of NPP, NDC and CPP and they were all present.

They checked the seals on the ballot bags and saw that everything was intact before unloading and burning. So it was a real success.”
