EC Clarifies: No Presidential Aspirant Disqualified for Personal Reasons

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has made it clear that no presidential aspirant was disqualified from the upcoming elections due to personal reasons. According to Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner in charge of Corporate Affairs, the disqualification process was thorough, rigorous, and strictly adhered to established legal and constitutional guidelines.

The EC’s statement comes amid speculation and allegations of bias against certain aspirants. However, Dr. Asare emphasized the transparency of the process, highlighting that it aimed to ensure all candidates met the requirements to participate in the elections. Disqualified aspirants were given ample opportunities to rectify nomination issues, demonstrating the Commission’s commitment to a fair electoral process.

The EC approved 13 presidential candidates and disqualified 11 others. Two disqualified aspirants have since sued the Electoral Commission.

Disqualification Process
The EC’s disqualification process involved two committees:

– Technical Committee: Ensured aspirants were qualified
– IT Committee: Verified endorsers’ qualifications

Aspirants were given opportunities to correct issues, and the Commission engaged in a scientific exercise to conclude the process.

Dr. Asare reassured that the Commission did not target specific aspirants or parties, and any claims of personal bias are unfounded. The EC’s primary goal is to ensure a credible and transparent electoral process.
