The Awere Basic School in Asafo, Kumasi Metropolis, Ashanti Region, is facing a serious challenge that threatens the learning environment of its students. Drug addicts have taken over the school, engaging in unsanitary practices, stealing electrical wires, and disrupting classes.
According to the Headmistress, Madam Rosemond Preprah Antwi, the situation has become unbearable, making it difficult for students to access essential IT tools like computers. The school has been left without power due to the stolen electrical wires.
Madam Preprah Antwi made a passionate appeal to the authorities to intervene and stop the movement of drug addicts in the school during the commissioning of an ultra-modern toilet facility constructed by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). While commending the KMA for the project, she emphasized the need for a safe and conducive learning environment for the students.
The presence of drug addicts has not only affected the academic performance of the students but also poses a health risk to them. The authorities must take immediate action to address this issue and ensure that the students can learn in a safe and secure environment.
The situation at Awere Basic School requires urgent attention from the authorities. The following measures need to be taken:
1. Increase security presence around the school
2. Collaborate with local law enforcement to arrest and rehabilitate drug addicts
3. Install security cameras to monitor the premises
4. Provide alternative facilities for drug addicts
5. Engage with the community to raise awareness about the issue
