Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced plans to revolutionize citizen identification, energy production, and public services in Ghana. During a tour of the Ofoase Ayirebi constituency, Dr. Bawumia revealed that newborn babies will be issued Ghana cards immediately after birth, enhancing access to public services and citizen identification.
In addition, Dr. Bawumia unveiled plans to boost Ghana’s renewable energy capacity by building 2,000 megawatts of solar power, reducing reliance on expensive oil and gas for electricity generation. This initiative aims to decrease electricity costs by 50%.
Dr. Bawumia also announced that Ghana card holders will no longer need to fill out forms to obtain a passport, as the card will contain all necessary information.
In a jab at former President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Bawumia highlighted his own eight years of experience and promised accountability after his first four years in office. He criticized Mahama’s presidency, reminding Ghanaians of the power crisis and cancellation of allowances for nursing and teacher trainees.
The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi constituency, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, also highlighted the New Patriotic Party’s developmental achievements in the constituency, including completed projects and the flagship free education policy.
Dr. Bawumia’s announcements and criticisms aim to position him as a “brand new president” and garner support for his presidential bid.
