Debating Bawumia a ‘Waste of Time’ – Kwakye Ofosu

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, an aide to former President John Mahama, has categorically rejected the idea of Mahama engaging in a debate with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, labeling it a “dialogue for the deaf.” This comes after President Nana Akufo-Addo challenged Mahama to a public debate with Bawumia ahead of the December polls.

According to Kwakye Ofosu, debating Bawumia would be pointless due to his history of spreading misinformation and illogical arguments on economic issues. “A debate with Bawumia will be a complete waste of time,” Kwakye Ofosu stated on Eyewitness News. “This is a man who shamelessly propounds illogical and untruthful positions, even in the face of glaring facts.”

Kwakye Ofosu cited examples of Bawumia’s questionable claims, such as asserting that Ghana’s current debt-ridden economy is superior to the one under Mahama’s presidency. He highlighted the stark contrast between the two economies, pointing out that Ghana now owes GH¢760 billion, which it cannot pay, whereas under Mahama, the debt was GH¢120 billion, which was manageable.

Given Bawumia’s unwillingness to acknowledge reality, Kwakye Ofosu believes that a debate would be futile. “When we have a candidate who thinks and reasons like this, it will be a complete waste of time to go and debate with him,” he concluded.

President Akufo-Addo had urged Mahama to confront Bawumia directly, emphasizing the importance of open dialogue in a democracy. However, Kwakye Ofosu’s response suggests that Mahama’s camp is not interested in engaging with Bawumia due to his perceived lack of credibility on economic issues.
