DCE outlines bold education reforms to boost academic performance

The Central Tongu District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Dodzi Addison Mornyuie, has announced a set of education-focused reforms designed to raise academic standards and improve literacy levels across the district.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Mornyuie revealed that the District Assembly, in collaboration with the Education Directorate, will soon launch a competitive examination programme across all twelve educational circuits to assess and identify top-performing students.

“The initiative will serve as a roadmap to spotlight and support the best students in the district,” he stated. “We are committed to creating a healthy academic environment that encourages excellence and prepares our students for future opportunities.”

The comprehensive programme will assess students in core subjects such as English, Science, and Mathematics, with a strong focus on reading comprehension.

“Reading is the backbone of quality education,” the DCE said. “We want to ensure that our pupils, right from the lower primary level, can read fluently and understand what they read.”

He noted that the assessment results would help inform targeted interventions for underperforming schools and students, while also offering recognition and support to high achievers.

“This approach will help us bridge learning gaps, promote fairness, and allocate resources where they are most needed,” Mr. Mornyuie emphasized.

He added that the District Assembly remains committed to providing logistical support to schools, including teaching, and learning materials and training opportunities for teachers.

The DCE also called on parents, traditional leaders, and all stakeholders to support the reform agenda and encourage pupils to prioritize their studies.

“These reforms are not just about competition—they are about uplifting the entire educational system in Central Tongu,” he said.

Mr. Mornyuie reaffirmed his belief in education as a foundation for sustainable development and urged the community to collaborate in making the reforms successful.
