Cynthia Morrison accuses NPP of intimidation amid shooting incident at rally

Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, has alleged intimidation from members of her party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following her decision to run as an independent candidate.

Her accusations come in the wake of a shooting at one of her campaign rallies, leaving four people injured. Among the victims were Rasheed Haruna, the Nasara Coordinator for Agona West, and the campaign chairman of Chris Arthur, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency. Haruna reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to the ribs, further escalating tensions around Morrison’s independent candidacy.

In response, Chris Arthur has accused Morrison of potential involvement in the incident. Morrison, however, dismissed these claims during an interview with Citi FM on October 28, 2024, calling them baseless.

“This has never happened here before. They are trying to intimidate me because I’m running independently, but I won’t be deterred. They think I’m here to spoil their votes, but I’m here to win,” Morrison declared.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service issued a statement on October 28, 2024, vowing to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting. The police assured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the perpetrators are held accountable as the election season progresses.
