Some Commercial sex workers within the Sekondi railway station enclave have been educated on the mode of contraction of Mpox Disease.
The education, according to Mr Dominic Bentum, the District Officer of the Ghana Red Cross Society, involved five volunteers who first sought permission from the “Queen mother” of the sex workers and asked her to organise them for the education programme.
He said though many of them were “on duty at the time of the visit,” a number of them participated in the programme.
“We visited about 28 ladies including their Queen mothers and customers.
According to Mr Bentum, many of the ladies were Nigerians who were rendering services to men within the metropolis.
Some of the sex workers however, requested for flyers to be posted in their rooms for their customers to read about the disease.
Mr Bentum indicated that inadequate posters and volunteers undermined effective education and sensitization.
He therefore called for more volunteers to join the outreach programme for maximum results.
