Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women in cocoa farming, recognizing their significant 40% contribution to the country’s cocoa industry. Felix Kwamina Quainoo, Deputy Director of Cocobod’s South West Extension, highlighted the challenges faced by women cocoa farmers and emphasized the need for empowerment and equal opportunities.
Speaking at the launch of the Women in Cocoa Farming Cooperative Union in Huni Valley, Quainoo stressed that supporting women is crucial to achieving Ghana’s cocoa production goal of 1 million metric tons per year. He acknowledged the importance of women’s roles in the industry and pledged Cocobod’s support.
Madam Peggy Mensah, President of the Women in Cocoa Farming Cooperative Union, expressed gratitude for Cocobod’s support. Cocoa farmers also appreciated Cocobod’s efforts but urged the organization to increase the cocoa price for the upcoming season.
