Six communities in cocoa-growing areas at Aiyinasi-North in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region have been connected to the national electricity grid.
The communities are Abidjan, Santokrom, Asoredanho, Anloga, Dotsekrom, and New Adiembra.
The project formed part of the Rural Electrification Project by the government to ensure that every town or village enjoyed electricity.
Commissioning the projects and igniting the transformers in each of the six communities, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, said communities without electricity could not continue to live in darkness and wait for the government.
He said access to electricity was a life-changing experience as it was an indirect way of making the people self-employable by creating jobs for themselves.
Mr Buah added that electricity would also afford them the opportunity to be abreast with current information and become an integral part of the national development.
He said in a technologically-driven world, which has made the world a global village, access to electricity was a necessity.
The MP gave the assurance that every house within the grid would be wired to enjoy the electricity.
Mr Buah thanked the Electricity of Ghana (ECG) and the contractors for their zeal to connect the deprived areas to the national electricity grid.
He also assured communities not connected to exercise patience and that plans were advanced to extend electricity to them.
Nana Etwe Kpanyinli, Chief of Aiyinasi, expressed gratitude to the MP for his untiring efforts to ensure that every community in Ellembelle was connected to the national electricity grid to spur the growth of the local economy.
He said the electricity would boost small scale businesses to flourish and improve the living conditions of the people.
