Sudan national team coach Kwesi Appiah has made it clear that it is unlikely that a Sudanese national will ever play football in Ghana again.
Appiah made the comments after two Sudanese players, defender Esmat Abdal Hamid Mohammed Al Hasan and striker Abdoelkarem Yousef Yagoub of Asante Kotoko, escaped from the team’s camp in the United States.
The two players disappeared from their base camp in Washington DC a day before Kotoko’s ceremonial match against Major League Soccer side DC United on Saturday, October 12, 2024, as part of the DC 2024 Ghana Week celebrations.
But CCTV footage revealed that the players had left the hotel where the Porcupines were staying without leaving any trace of their whereabouts.
“The truth is because of the two players who left the Asante Kotoko camp, I am not willing to bring players to Ghana, but the Sudanese captain says he would like to play for Asante Kotoko one day, but at the moment I am not interested in bringing a Sudanese player to Ghana,” Appiah told Asempa FM.
