Residents, drivers and commuters in Central and North Tongu districts, have appealed to the government through the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to provide clear communication on the commissioning of the newly completed Aklakpa and Tsetsekpo bridges.
The community, led by the Assembly Member of the Adidome Central Electoral Area, Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, is requesting that an official timeline be outlined within a week to facilitate the planning and address ongoing transport difficulties associated with the alternative route.
Mr Fiagbenu, who also chairs the Adidome–Juapong Transport Union, said the residents appreciate government’s intervention in reconstructing the Aklakpa bridge and rehabilitating the Tsetsekpo bridge, as well as the commitment demonstrated by engineers and project supervisors during the construction period.
He said the confirmation of project completion by the lead engineer, Mr Roland Appiani, and the project supervisor, Mr Jonas Asamoa Peprah, had strengthened public expectation for a timely commissioning.
He noted that while the Regional Directorate of the GHA had indicated that a contractor had been assigned to complete the final phase of the access road, further communication on the commissioning schedule was essential to ease public concerns and ensure a smooth transition to full usage.
Mr Fiagbenu emphasised that the appeal was being made in good faith and in the interest of safe and efficient mobility. He indicated that the community remained committed to constructive engagement, adding that any further steps, including the possibility of a peaceful demonstration, would only be considered as a last resort and undertaken in accordance with the law.
He expressed appreciation to the government, the GHA, and all stakeholders for their efforts, and expressed optimism that timely engagement would facilitate the opening of the bridges and improve transportation and economic activity within the Tongu enclave.
