Catechists and Evangelists Union elects officers at national conference

The National Catechists and Evangelists Union of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana on Friday elected Catechist Francis Yao Siegu, 57, as the new President of the Union.
The election was held at the end of a three-day National Conference of the Union at Anlo Afiadenyigba in the Keta Municipality.
The conference, which was attended by about 200 Catechists from the 16 Presbyteries of the Church was on the theme: “Care for creation: the task and mission of the Catechist.”
Catechist Siegu was declared winner after a keen contest with Catechist Mawutor Yao Agbeve of the Dansoman branch in the West Volta Presbytery of the Church.
Catechist Siegu got 76 votes whilst Catechist Agbeve garnered 70 votes with a third contestant, Catechist Ebenezer Yao Dzordzordzi of the Somanya branch in the Eastern Presbytery securing 39 of the votes.
Mr Siegu who would be taking over from Catechist Sylvanus M.Y. Anku, who would complete his six-year term in December 2025, is the Catechists of the Sogakope congregation in the South Volta Presbytery of the Church.
He will steer the affairs of the Union for a six-year-one-term.
Catechist Siegu before his election, served as the President of West Volta Presbytery branch of the Union for two terms and is the current President of the South Volta Presbytery branch.
He expressed his profound gratitude to members of the Union for the confidence reposed in him and said the welfare and well-being of members of the Union would be his topmost priority.
Catechist Seigu stated that it was time they took their destinies into their own hands.
He noted that he and the other executive members of the Union would see to it that their condition of service was improved and make the Union more attractive and respected than he came to meet it.
Catechist Anku extolled the rich experience of the newly elected President and hoped he would use it to move the Union to a higher level.
Topics treated at the conference included environmental care, culture and the Church and unleashing the Catechist towards growing EPCG congregations.
