In a significant development, James Kwesi Appiah has temporarily relinquished his position on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council.
The decision comes amidst the conflict of interest concerns raised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) due to Appiah’s dual roles:
– Head coach of Sudan’s national team
– GFA Executive Council member
Appiah will step down until the completion of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in November 2024.
He will resume his role on the GFA Executive Council at the end of November 2024.
This move addresses CAF’s concerns and ensures compliance with regulations, avoiding potential sanctions.
Kwesi Appiah will now focus on guiding Sudan’s national team through the AFCON qualifiers.
The GFA and CAF are yet to officially comment on Appiah’s decision.
This development brings clarity to Appiah’s situation, allowing him to prioritize his coaching role while maintaining his connection with Ghanaian football.
