Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have officially settled their divorce after more than eight years of legal battles, according to court documents filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court on December 30, 2024.
Details of the financial settlement and custody arrangements for their two minor children were not disclosed. However, Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, expressed relief on her behalf, stating, âAngelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.â
Jolie initially filed for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. The former Hollywood power couple, who share six children, were together for over a decade before their 2014 marriage.
Their lengthy divorce proceedings were marked by contentious custody disputes, the fallout from a 2016 private plane incident, and a complex legal battle over the sale of Jolieâs stake in ChĂąteau Miraval, the French winery they once co-owned.
In August 2022, a heavily redacted FBI report revealed allegations that Pitt physically assaulted Jolie and verbally abused their children during a 2016 flight from France to the U.S. Pitt was not charged, and Jolie filed for divorce days after the incident.
The winery dispute continues to be a source of legal contention, with Pitt claiming Jolieâs 2021 sale of her stake was unlawful.
Despite the protracted legal fight, Jolie has maintained her focus on her family’s wellbeing, stating in a 2020 interview with Vogue India: âI separated for the wellbeing of my family. It was the right decision, and I continue to focus on their healing.â
While this chapter of their legal battles has concluded, challenges related to the ChĂąteau Miraval winery remain unresolved.
