Bishop Salifu Amoako, Others Granted Bail

The Accra High Court has granted bail to Bishop Salifu Amoako, Mouha Amoako, and Linda Bempah, accused in connection with the fatal East Legon accident. The accident, which claimed two lives, was caused by Elrad Amoako, the son of Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako.

Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako face charges of permitting an unlicensed person to drive, while Linda Bempah, a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches, is accused of handing over the keys of the Jaguar car to Elrad.

During interrogation, the parents admitted to allowing their son to drive to the gym and other locations despite knowing he was unlicensed. However, it was revealed that Linda Bempah gave Elrad the car keys.

The defense lawyers argued for bail, citing the accused’s fixed places of abode, gainful employment, and reputation in society. They assured the court that their clients would make themselves available for trial and would not interfere with investigations or commit another offense.

Although the prosecution did not oppose the bail application, they requested stringent bail conditions.

Considering the arguments, the judge granted bail to the accused persons in the amount of GH¢50,000 each.

The East Legon accident sparked widespread concern, highlighting the issue of unlicensed driving in Ghana. The case has drawn attention to parental responsibility and accountability.

The granting of bail marks a significant development in the case, which is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
