Bishop Salifu Amoako and wife arrested after son’s car accident claims two lives at East Legon

The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, Founder and Leader of Alive Chapel International, following a tragic car accident involving his 16-year-old son that resulted in two fatalities at East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

The mother of the teenager, Mouha Amoako, has also been taken into police custody. In a statement released on social media on Tuesday, October 15, the police confirmed, “The parents of the 16-year-old suspect driver, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, are currently in custody assisting with the investigation.”

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that on October 12, 2024, the suspect, Elrad Salifu Amoako, was driving a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20 when he collided with an Acura 4×4 vehicle (GR 2542-23) on Mensah Wood Street, East Legon. The Acura, driven by Joseph Ackah, carried four passengers. Both vehicles caught fire and were destroyed beyond recognition.

The police confirmed that three passengers in the Acura were rescued, but two children, identified as Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both aged 12, lost their lives. Two of the rescued passengers were treated and discharged, while a third remains hospitalized.

 

The suspect driver and the passenger in the Jaguar were also rescued and are currently receiving medical care at a hospital.

Following the incident, the police visited the bereaved families and the injured. The Police Management Board, led by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, carried out the visits on October 15, 2024, to offer condolences and monitor the progress of the injured.
