The Berekum Presbyterian ‘A’ Primary School in the Bono Region has held its 120th anniversary celebration, with a call on past students and corporate bodies to help re-roof its classroom blocks, for effecting teaching and learning.
Mr George Hinneh, the Headteacher of the school who made the call, said the school was established in 1905 by the late Reverend Nicholas Timothy, a Presbyterian Priest and missionary, to provide formal education to the people.
Addressing a durbar for school children, teachers, parents and stakeholders at Berekum, Mr Hinneh said the roof was currently leaking, seriously impeding teaching and learning, especially during the wet seasons.
The anniversary was on the theme: “Celebrating our heritage: Education, a powerful tool for the Nation”.
He said the school also required a Kindergarten block to provide early child education for the growing population of school-aged children in the area, saying the lack had led to a decline in pupils at the lower primary level.
Mr Hinneh stated that the school had a rich history of churning out notable politicians and many distinguished individuals in the academia and the business community.
Mr John Nii-Abekah, the Bono Regional Manager of Presbyterian School also appealed to the past students and stakeholders to support the school to put up a Kindergarten block.
Mr David Owusu Ansah, the Berekum Municipal Director of Education expressed appreciation to the Berekum Presbyterian Church for supporting the school and urged the teachers to redouble their efforts to improve upon the academic performances of their students.
