Berekum Municipal NHIS registers 125,000 members-Manager

Mr Gabriel Kyere, the Berekum Municipal Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Bono Region says the scheme has registered 125,000 members in the Municipality.

He said the figure represented 95 percent of the 2025 Municipal registration target of 131,000 promising to reach the target by the close of the year.

Mr Kyere stated this when the Bono Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) engaged some market women and residents at Berekum to raise awareness about the Authority’s “Storm Project” campaign.

The “NHIA Storm Project” campaign is an initiative aimed at encouraging residents to renew their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards and inspire new registration of members.

As part of the campaign personnel of the NHIA held a procession through the principal streets of Berekum and interacted with market women, traders, and commercial drivers.

Mr Isaac Badu Amponsah, the Bono Regional Director of the NHIA told the traders and market women that the Authority remained dedicated to ensuring that everybody accessed free healthcare.

He said the campaign was to intensify awareness creation to tackle certain shortcomings impeding the smooth operation of the NHIS.

Mr Amponsah said the government established the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to capture certain diseases under NHIS like kidney failure, heart attacks, cancer, strokes, and other chronic diseases.

He also cautioned service providers against the unacceptable practices of collecting illegal fees from clients of the NHIS who visited their facilities.
